Pharaoh's dream came to fruition and after the seven years of fat came seven years of famine throughout the land. Only in Egypt was there food. So Jacob sent his son's, minus the youngest brother of Joseph into Egypt to purchase food. But when they arrived there, they were met by their brother Joseph, who himself was unknown to them. But Joseph recognized his brothers. He accused them of being spies in the land. He told his brothers to leave Simeon with him and return to Canaan to fetch their youngest brother and bring him to Joseph as proof that they were not spies. The brothers bags were loaded with corn and their money was returned to them in the bags. When they examined the bags and found their money there, they were afraid. They returned to Canaan and told their father all that had transpired but Jacob was reluctant to send Benjamin, Joesph's younger brother with his other sibling for fear that under their watch something would happen to him as well. Reuben promised to keep Benjamin safe. (Genesis 42).
